Two Hike Weekend

Two hike weekend -- both in Las Cruces and both at the Dripping Springs Recreation Area.  Please RSVP as requested for each hike.

What: The Narrows

What: The Narrows

When: Saturday, July 31, 2010 8:00 AM

Where: Pan Am parking lot - NMSU

Las Cruces, NM 88003

Meet 8 AM Pan Am parking lot, or 8:30 ish at the Dripping Springs visitor center.  Start hiking back at la cueva picnic area after registering at the visitor center.  Go up the south side of La Cueva and then up fillmore canyon, take the informal spur trail towards the Narrows. This gains about 1500 ft and the trail thins out near the end but follows a canyon to a gap between 2 cliffs of different colored rock,
which makes a good place for lunch or snacks. We have been here many times. Should be back by early afternoon.

Hope it stays cool and wet and not too hot. Easy trip, no long driving. Bert V

Saturday, August 1 at 7:00 a.m. – Dripping Springs

Plan to meet at the Shell station on the SE corner of Transmountain and I-10. We will arrange car pools and caravan from there toSoledad Canyon east of Las Cruces. The hike is an easy 5 mile round trip walk with very little elevation gain. It culminates at the waterfall.  Pets are allowed

For bibliophiles, we will plan to make a stop at COAS Bookstore in Las Cruces on the way back to El Paso. If you have never been to COAS and love books, you are in for a treat. Guaranteed.

See you on the trail.
