Our next hike will be to the top of Picacho Mountain, and return through scenic Box Canyon. Until recently, Picacho Mountain was private land and off limits to the public. With the help of The Nature Conservancy, this Mesilla Valley landmark is now preserved by the BLM for the benefit of future generations.
This is a moderately strenuous hike of about 6 miles with an elevation gain of about 1200 feet to the top of Picacho Mountain. We will return to the trail head via Box Canyon along the path of the historic Butterfield Trail.
There is a geocache nearby.
